McGowen Recreation and Wildlife Area is Multipurpose facility with over 300 acres managed by the Davis County Conservation
Board. The goals of the management programs on the area include a diverse blend of recreational developments for
the public, maintenance of quality wildlife habitat areas, pond management, prairie management and establishment, timber management,
and providing environmental education programs. The Area hosts a variety of game and non-game wildlife species, diverse
terrain, stocked ponds, native prairie remenants full of forb and grass species native to Southern Iowa. Century
old oak trees scattered throughout the area resemble oak savanna a once dominate land feature in Southern Iowa.
Hunting is allowed on the area in designated hunting
areas only, all State and Federal Wildlife rules and regulations apply
Park hours are from 5:00 am to 10:30 pm.
